Condition

Every piece is graded against the same published scale

A grade is a description of wear, not a marketing word. Whatever the grade names, the photographs show.

GradeMeaning
PristineAppears unused. No visible wear. Original packaging may be included.
ExcellentLight use. Minimal wear, no structural issues, interior clean.
Very GoodModerate wear — light corner rubbing, even patina, minor hardware marks.
GoodClear wear consistent with regular use. Fully functional. All wear photographed.
FairHeavy wear, possible repairs or staining. Priced accordingly and disclosed in full.

How grading works

What we look at

Exterior

Corner wear and rubbing, surface scuffs, creasing, colour transfer, patina development and evenness, and any repair or restoration.

Hardware

Scratching, plating loss, tarnish, and the function of every zip, clasp, lock and turn.

Interior

Lining marks, staining, odour, pocket condition, and any lining separation or repair.

Structure

Whether the piece holds its shape, the condition of stitching, handle and strap integrity, and base stability.

Grading is not condition-inflated

A bag with light corner rubbing is Very Good, not Excellent, even when it photographs well. If we are between two grades, we publish the lower one.

Patina is not damage. On vachetta and untreated leathers, an even honey tone is expected with age and is described as patina rather than wear. Uneven darkening, water marking and staining are described as flaws.
